Abstract

|
Splenectomy for the treatment of massive splenomegary and severe hypersplenism carries a significant morbidity and mortality. Since Madison first used splenic embolization in the treatment of hypersplenism in 1973 and Spigos introduced partial splenic embolization (PSE) reducing complications of total splenic embolization in 1979, PSE has been accepted as an altetnative therapeutic modality in the treatment of hypers plenism. We experienced PSE for the treatment of severe hypersplenism in a patient with liver cirrhosis. This patient showed good therapeutic results and no specific complications except for abdominal pain.
